The statement reads as follows:
“Since January 20, 2018, the Kurdish region Afrin of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria is heavily
attacked by the Turkish army and jihadist groups affiliated with it. Day and night, towns and villages,
refugee camps, historical sites and ancient sacred sites has been bombed by Turkish warplanes and artillery.
This aggressive attacks have had one aim, namely to depopulate and occupy the region. The international
community has not taken adequate measures in the question and humanity have been forced to face new war
crimes and new civilian loses in modern time. Women have become targets of rape, cruel sexual assaults and
bodily mutilation by the Turkish army and its affiliated gangs.
The Erdogan regime has openly announced that the purpose of its military aggression against Afrin is to
destroy the autonomous democratic self-government of Rojava and the occupation of the territory of
northern Syria.
The terror exerted by the Turkish state and the barbarism of the jihadists with whom it is allied with, take
place under the eyes of the world. The international powers, especially the United States, Russia, the
European Union and the United Nations are responsible for this invasion and ethnic cleansing.
The Turkish state is stepping up ethnic cleansing in the city of Afrin, this time taking advantage of the
withdrawal of the FDS, YPJ and YPG who have withdrawn from the city to prevent further civilian killings
Urgent humanitarian support for Afrin
The hundreds of thousands of civilians forced to flee the barbarism of the Turkish state in Afrin are today left
alone on the roads of exile. Women and children in particular are facing a major humanitarian disaster. Just
as it has remained silent throughout the Turkish fascist regime’s aggression against Afrin, thus endorsing its
ethnic cleansing operation, the international community is refraining today from rescuing the hundreds of
thousands of civilians fleeing the country. arrival of the Turkish army and its jihadist hordes.
The invasion of Afrin is a shame for humanity. The YPG, YPJ and FDS not only defend Afrin, but also
advocated democracy, freedom, women’s emancipation, all common values of humanity.
Urgent appeal to governments, political parties, human rights organizations, civil society and
international institutions:
-Helping the hundreds of thousands fleeing Turkish terror is the responsibility of the international
community.
– The international community and its institutions such as the UN, the EU and the Council of Europe
must take all necessary steps needed to ensure an immediately withdraw of the unlawful Turkish invading
forces from Afrin; she must judge the Turkish state for the crimes perpetrated against humanit.
-International powers must put an end to arms deals and political partnerships with totalitarian regimes
such as Turkey.
-The democracy and peace efforts of the Syrian democratic forces and the Democratic Federation of
Northern Syria must be supported.
