Turkish army and its backed groups entered Afrin city on March 18, 2018 after bombardment on the city. Following the meeting under the name “Afrin Liberation Congress”, an assembly of 35 members was elected. After these developments, hundreds of people of Afrin were forcibly displaced from Afrin to Shehba Canton. Autonomous Administration of Afrin Canton and Shehba Canton built “Berxwedan Camp” for the displaced people of Afrin. Cihan Muhammed, one of the administrators of the camp, pointed out the problems the people face and she criticized the silence of international organizations for human rights and women.
‘We set up 700 tents’
Mentioning the resistance of the people, Cihan reminded that the people of Afrin were forcibly displaced. “The people facing massacre set their face to go to Shehba Canton. Some of the people live in the schools and the Berxwedan Camp. We have set up 700 tents until now. Approximately 250,000 people live in these tents. But they need medicines, clothes and particularly special stuff for women and children. Diseases have been appeared within the people. Pregnant women and babies live in the camp. We are not able to meet all needs of the people because the number of the people is very high but we have received limited aids.”
‘People resist despite adverse conditions’
Noting that the people keep resisting and practicing communal life despite adverse conditions, Cihan added, “The people are determined to keep their resistance in the tents in Shehba despite everything.” Lastly, Cihan called on all international organizations for human rights and women; “They should break their silence. They should come to Berxwedan Camp and see everything on site.”
